2017 LINCOLN DAY DINNER
A record turnout attended the Republican Executive Committee of Volusia County 2017 Lincoln Day Dinner held at the Ocean Center Ballroom the evening of October 8. A VIP reception was held prior to the dinner, where guests and speakers could mingle and have their photos taken with the Keynote Speaker, Judge Jeanine Pirro, Fox News Host of Justice with Judge Jeanine. Greeting guests on arrival in the lobby was the Trump Fan Zone, filled with fun games and an old-fashioned arcade photo booth. Mistress of Ceremonies for the dinner was the lovely Casey Black DeSantis, host of a television talk show, First Coast Living, which airs in Jacksonville, and wife of speaker and U.S. Congressman (D-6) Ron DeSantis. They proudly announced their 10-month old daughter Madison will have a brother in March. Representative DeSantis spoke of the importance of draining the swamp that is DC by voting out politicians who put perks and party over people. Judge Jeanine, who also spoke on cleaning up DC, gave a special shout out to the next generation, the Volusia Teenage Republicans (VTARS), recently named the best TARS club in Florida.

DISCUSSION WITH DESANTIS AT BETHUNE COOKMAN COLLEGE
Hundreds packed the Bethune Cookman College Performing Arts Center in Daytona Beach to hear and question Congressman Ron DeSantis during an hour and one half town hall. There were factions in the audience less than respectful of the Congressman and his supporters recognized to ask a question. Sometimes, not even a microphone was able to magnify the Congressman's voice above the shouts. Eventually, both those who agreed nd disagreed with the Congressman's positions were heard. A win for free speech.

RCWV At The 2017 DeLand Christmas Parade
Christmas arrived early in Deland on December 7, when thousands of happy West Volusians cheered as colorful floats, talented marchers, bang-up bands and decorated vehicles made their way down Woodland Boulevard in the 69th annual DeLand Christmas Parade. The Republican Club of West Volusia was a proud participant and was greeted with ovations, praises, thank yous, thumbs ups and even some toasts. The RCWV float crew and accompanying Volusia Teenage Republican marchers waved and spread candy canes and good conservative cheer. Kudos to those who helped behind the scenes and decorated our entry. The truck was again donated by Past President Marshall Bone. Good fun was had by all. Photos Gary Crews

VOLUSIA VOLUNTEERS’ VICTORY NOVEMBER 8, 2016
Volusia County had 1,004 more registered Democrats than Republicans going into the November 8 election, but Republicans flipped the script by turning out over 9,000 more voters, thanks to the dauntless volunteers who manned headquarters, waved signs, canvassed neighborhoods, made phone calls, and were poll greeters and watchers. Republicans turned Volusia County deep red, winning the Presidency, the U.S. Congress and Senate, most State House and Senate and Volusia County Council Seats and the Council Chair.
The Republican Club of West Volusia is a great venue to meet and work with like-minded people, and where volunteering is easy and stress-free, as well as gratifying, educational and enjoyable year round.

2016 LINCOLN DAY DINNER Benghazi hero Kris "Tanto" Paronto was the keynote speaker the evening of August 12, at the Republican Executive Committee of Volusia County's annual Lincoln Day Victory Dinner, the year's biggest fundraiser, at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. Paronto was one of six American private security operators who fought back against Islamic militants on September 11, 2012, in an attack at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and he was invited to share his harrowing tale. Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, and Donald Trump greeted guests in the lobby (life size cardboard cutouts). Inside, they were treated to a who's who of the Republican party. With close to 500 attendees and an active silent auction, the 2016 Lincoln Day Dinner was a success.

The Republican Club of West Volusia Hosts Booth at the 2016
DeLand went to the dogs on Saturday, February 6, when the annual Mardi Gras Dog Parade marched down Woodland Boulevard. This year’s theme was Patriotic Pups. Club members (and candidates) enjoyed a dog day afternoon at the RCWV booth at the street festival on West Indiana Avenue in front of the historic courthouse, greeting two and four legged participants and handing out election and educational information to passers-by and treats to our furry friends. |

U.S. Congressman Trey Gowdy Keynotes Volusia County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner November 8, 2015 An enthusiastic and record crowd of over 650 filled the ballroom of the Ocean Center, Daytona Beach, on Sunday night, November 8, for the Volusia County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner. Local, state and federal candidates and elected officials mingled with Republican voters from at least five nearby counties. “We’ve got a lot of activists and a roomful of cheerleaders,” said Tony Ledbetter, Chairman of the Volusia Republican Executive Committee. “We just have to keep raising more cheerleaders.” U.S Congressman and now U.S. Senate candidate Ron DeSantis was awarded the American Conservative Union’s Defender of Liberty Award by its President, Matt Schlapp. U.S. Congressman Trey Gowdy, Chairman of the House Benghazi Committee, was the keynote speaker. He championed classic conservative principles and called on the audience to use facts, not insults, and to be genuine, sincere and compassionate when spreading the message of the Republican Party. “If you want to win in 2016, it is no longer enough that we simply tell people – particularly people my kids’ age – what you believe,” he said. “You have to tell them why you believe it.” |

RCWV and Greatest Generation Member Captain Chuck Downey
Capt. Downey was an ace WWII pilot, the youngest ever to fly for the Navy during the war and a pilot for 70 years. On November 13, 1944, at Manila Bay, he helped sink a Japanese light Cruiser. In the course of that action, his plane was hit by shrapnel from the explosion of the bomb from his flight leader. The damage nearly ended the mission, but Capt. Downey was able to get the plane back to a carrier. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for this action and cited in Tom Brokaw’s bestselling book, “The Greatest Generation”. After 33 years in the service, Capt. Downey was an aviation executive with various commercial airlines. Last February, he and his daughter were invited by President George H.W. Bush, the second youngest WWII Navy pilot, and his wife, Barbara Bush, to their home in College Station, Texas Photos Courtesy of Karen K. Clark |
